On Saturday 21st August the girls took part in their first ever match against a very experienced Glasdrumman side. It was a great day out for the girls playing the first game against the Mourne side and some valuable experience was gained. Although not victorious there were some great individual performances notable from Caitlin Lyons who had a magnificent game in midfield scoring the Macs only goal. The game was played in high tempo and in good spirit which will in no doubt be beneficial for their next tournament. (See our photo’s section for pictures of the game)

On Friday 23rd of August the senior team played their quarter final of the junior championship against St Malachy’s at St Pauls. After making a slow start and going 5 points down, the Macs started to settle and take some nice scores for themselves. The game could have been a lot closer only for some wayward shooting from St Malachy’s and also due to them having a man sent off. The Macs took full advantage of this and went in at half time with a one point lead. In the second half some excellent individual scores from Thomas Maguire and some clinical free taking sent the Macs 5 clear. They never looked back after that and went on to win the game comfortably. They continue on to the Semi final where they meet St Agnes on the 12th September.

A few of our coaches are taking part in a lower falls summer scheme at the Grosvenor leisure centre from 1.30 to 3.30 daily this week (Starting 16th August). The Macs agreed to take part and send coaches down to volunteer for the weeks coaching. If your child would like to get an extra bit of training in or if they are just looking for a bit of fun, send them along.

On Saturday 14th of August the Macs took on league winners Bredagh in a very entertaining game. In a highly contested game each team went point for point in the first half with the Macs goal coming from some great individual work from Christopher Turley. Going in 5 down at the break the Macs came out in the second half and made a sluggish start with Bredagh hitting 4 unanswered points. The macs soon found their form again and replied with some fine scores themselves. Gerard Turley found the net with 5 mins to go which brought the Macs within 5 points, but that was as close as it got as Bredagh knocked over another 3 points before the end. A very entertaining game, and well done to Bredagh on winning the league.
